OpenAI said Wednesday it was a “big day for the desktop” as it made Advanced Voice available in the ChatGPT desktop app for MacOS and Windows. This feature is available to all users who have downloaded the latest version of the app.
Advanced Voice refers to OpenAI’s AI-powered voice assistant. It can interrupt, continue conversations for multiple turns, and respond to user emotions for a more intuitive and helpful conversation experience. This addresses the problem that most voice assistants can’t understand what you’re saying.
It sounds too good to be true, but when I tested it, it was great at carrying out long conversations and understanding what I meant, even when my thoughts weren’t linear. Ta. Casual use cases include chatting about your day, playing trivia games, or talking about yourself on ChatGPT. Still, the practical use case is the same as a regular voice assistant.

In the desktop app, users do not have access to the multimodal features of voice mode, such as assisting content on the user’s screen or using the user’s phone camera as a context for responses, but OpenAI has not announced its release date yet.
Other perks of the desktop app include easy access with shortcuts and on-screen recognition, making it easier to get help with less explanation and more context. To download the app, please visit: ChatGPT app website Click the link for your device.
