India kept their Women’s T20 World Cup hopes alive with a six-wicket win over rivals Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday.
After losing to New Zealand just two days ago, India almost had to win against Pakistan.
Pakistan took the lead with the toss and batting, but India’s superb bowling led to just 105 runs, with Arundhati Reddy and Shreyanka Patil taking five wickets.
India were expected to improve their net run rate, which dipped to -2.9 after the loss to New Zealand, but were cautious in their run chase.
Shafali Verma escaped the first dismissal with the fifth ball of the chase, but the ball missed the wicket and was reviewed.
This proved to be a defining moment as Verma scored 32 runs to propel India forward before Aliya Riaz took a good catch.
From there, India made steady progress and crossed the line, but there were concerns that captain Harmanpreet Kaur slipped and limped off with an injury in the closing stages.
More to come…
