Family life on the road
It’s really packed. Last weekend, my in-laws were actually on the bus with me. That meant six kids, four dogs, two bus drivers, and my stepfather and mother. I don’t know how they survived!
I have a really great routine. Our lives are so unique. I don’t start work until about 9pm, so I stay up much later than the average family and usually eat dinner after the show around 11:30. [at night]. After the crowd is gone, we take the dogs and kids out to the empty venue to run around and burn off some energy. It’s completely chaotic, but it’s better than being outside alone.
tour date night
We need to tell our children that you can be yourself. We’re pretty honest with them. We need time, so Laney and I are going to go for a walk, have an ice cream date, or take the bus and let them hang out in the dressing room for a while.
My children are merciful and very tolerant and understanding. They realize that they exist because their father and mother love each other. It’s not like they don’t know that Laney and I spend time together.
Tour bus essentials
Some people may be a little critical of it because it’s not very healthy, but it also has Cinnamon Toast Crunch in it. There’s plenty of Hershey’s with almonds, and there’s also high-end non-alcoholic beer. I always have it in my fridge. So [I have] Some of it after every show. Then, most of my tour buses are filled with things my dogs need, like dog beds, crates, and hanging leashes.
green room atmosphere
With the kids, Laney, and the dogs, we carry lots of toys: cornhole, rollerblades, fishing rods, ball gloves, and more. I mean, I have it all. The entire garage is under the bus. There’s also a gym, which is a bit unique. We carry a small fitness center that can be set up on a cart with pull-up bars, benches, and plenty of dumbbells. That’s very cool. No matter where I go, they start setting up around noon so the band can practice and the kids can join me. I hit the weights pretty hard.
