Verizon customers across the country are reporting that their phones are stuck in SOS mode due to network outages. While it may not be a quick fix and you’ll likely need to resolve the issue with Verizon’s network, there are some steps you can take to get your phone working again.
Mashable’s Kimberly Gedeon has all the details about this glitch, but the gist is that many iPhones are stuck in SOS mode. This is an Apple feature that allows you to call or text emergency services even if you don’t have service. This is intended for users in areas with low coverage.
This suggests that a critical part of Verizon’s network is down. Verizon said it is working on the issue.
In a statement about X, the company said it was “aware of an issue impacting service for some customers” and that “our engineers are engaged and working quickly to identify and resolve the issue.” Ta.
Not all Verizon customers experience this problem (both my Verizon phone and WiFi are working fine now), but it seems to be a major issue. Here’s what you can do:

Phone stuck in SOS mode: What to do
To be honest, there is no real solution other than getting Verizon’s network back online. If so, we will update this story.
Try putting your phone in airplane mode or turning it off completely and reconnecting to the network. However, if the network remains down, you may not be able to connect.
You can also use Wi-Fi calling. This method allows you to send text messages, make a call Wifi. You also have the option of using popular communication apps like FaceTime and WhatsApp.
Otherwise, you can continue restarting your iPhone or wait until Verizon resolves the issue.
