There’s a lot to cover this week, from big-budget tentpole movies to quirky TV shows, so naturally we’ll start with the MCU.
Captain America: Brave New World
In the trailer Captain America: Brave New WorldThaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) wants Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) to reinstate in the U.S. military. Though he’s clearly reluctant to the idea, he’s forced to jump into the fight when super-soldier Isaiah Bradley attacks the president.
Mackie’s first MCU film in the lead role (and apparently the first appearance of the Red Hulk!) will hit theaters on January 14, 2025, so you’ll have time to see it. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Before debut.
F1
Big-ticket new releases from Apple and Warner Bros. F1 The film won’t hit U.S. theaters until June 27, 2025, but a trailer filled with plenty of racing footage has already been released. Brad Pitt stars as Sonny Hayes, a veteran driver who’s been away from racing since a terrible accident in the 1990s, but decides to return to the circuit as a mentor to Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris).
The film seems about as pretentious as director Joseph Kosinski’s films get. Top Gun: Maverick. Pitt and Idris Actually drive a car Although the film was designed specifically for F1 racing, much of the filming took place at actual F1 races.
Gladiator II
Ridley Scott’s long-awaited Gladiator In the sequel, Lucius Verus (Paul Mescal), nephew of the previous Emperor Commodus, has grown up and lost his memory of his mother Lucilla (Connie Nielsen), but he remembers the rebellion of Maximus (Russell Crowe). Lucius, now a slave, is inspired by Maximus and teams up with Macrinus (Denzel Washington) to start his own rebellion, with the very goal of destroying the Roman Empire.
Gladiator II Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger also star in the film, which opens on November 22nd.
Time Bandit
Taika Waititi’s take Time Bandit The film appears to retain the fantastical quasi-realistic feel of the original Terry Gilliam film, but with some changes to the format, most notably no longer featuring dwarves playing the time bandits.
Otherwise, the premise is essentially the same: A young boy goes on an adventure with a band of time-traveling thieves and finds himself jumping through time. The Apple TV Plus series, which stars Lisa Kudrow, Rune Temte, Kal-El-Tak, Tad Murphy, Keira Thompson, and more, premieres on July 24.
Agatha All Along
in WandaVision Spin-off Agatha All Along, Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza) helps Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) wake up from a hallucination in which she believed she was a detective trying to solve a mysterious murder. However, she discovered that she had witch powers. WandaVision They are lost, and she must assemble a coven of witches to retrieve them. Agatha All Along Available on Disney+ from September 18th.
Severance pay
Severance pay Season 2 is finally here, more than two years after the first season of the quirky sci-fi office thriller ended on a cliffhanger, and the new season is now set to premiere on Apple TV Plus on January 17th. If you haven’t seen the show yet, don’t worry: A teaser released by Apple earlier this week introduces the characters of Mark (Adam Scott), Herry (Britt Lauer), Dylan (Zach Cherry), and Irving (John Turturro), but it won’t give away any spoilers.
