Kate Cross scored two off the last ball to tie the scores and ensure a dramatic tie between Northern Superchargers and Southern Brave in The Hundred.
Hitting boundaries never looked easy on a slow, worn-out wicket and the Superchargers’ challenge to reach a hundred was tense and stressful from start to finish as Southern Brave’s batting effort in the first innings was equally sloppy.
The Braves were well led throughout by captain Georgia Adams, who took advantage of the conditions to keep playing stumps and maintain the pressure of chasing, and were grateful to England seamer Lauren Bell for her outstanding performance with 4-11.
Phoebe Litchfield and Alice Davidson-Richards were both looking to secure victory for Holly Armitage’s team but on a close, momentum-driven day, both players were sent off just when it looked like their team was starting to lead.
While Mya Boucher and Chloe Tryon were the only Southern Brave players to top 20 points, Rihanna Southby and Bell played pivotal roles with bats in hand in inching their team closer to the psychologically important triple-figure mark.
In truth, the Southern Brave’s point total was barely surpassed by the Superchargers, but both teams will feel like they missed out on a chance to earn their first win in The Hundred.
Man of the Match – Lauren Bell
“The emotions were up and down! There was a lot of adrenaline in the last five sets. It was awesome. That’s why we play cricket.”
“At the death, you just bowl one ball at a time and see who to bowl to. Off-pace worked on this pitch and on-pace was a good variation so I bowled one ball at a time.”
“The ideal last ball would have been a straight yoke and I think I wasn’t too far off in getting it. Maybe I just needed to look a little further down the field but you can’t help it. Looking back on it, it’s great.”
