Luke Robinson is set to hold talks with Huddersfield Giants over the potential permanent head coaching role.
Robinson is currently the Giants’ interim manager following the departure of Ian Watson last week and is eager to turn the team’s form around.
Huddersfield have lost nine of their last 10 games in all competitions and will face Salford Red Devils. It will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Mix at 7.45pm on Friday.
“I’ve never rushed to take the top job. I’m only two weeks away from being fired,” Robinson said. Sky Sports’ verdict.
“I feel like I’m ready. I feel like I’ve had the opportunity to train under a lot of coaches both as a player and as an assistant coach.”
“It has to be the right person at the right time, not just for me but for the club. If they decide it’s not the right time for me, then I’ll support whoever comes in.”
“I want nothing but the best for this club and I will go in the direction the club decides. If you’re asking me if I’m ready and if I think I can do the job, I think I can do the job well.”
Asked if he had spoken to the club, he added: “Not with the board. I’ve spoken to the CEO a bit at a time but there’s a lot going on behind the scenes. We haven’t had time to have a proper discussion.”
“Right now we’re really struggling with injuries and we’re at a bare minimum with personnel, so we’ve got a lot of issues we’re trying to solve in the short term. The long-term issues have kind of taken a back seat.”
Robinson: There is no immediate effect.
Huddersfield reached the Challenge Cup final in 2022, finishing third, but have struggled since then.
Last week against Leigh, Andre Saverio was sent off for the second time in his four-game Huddersfield career.
The Giants have also struggled with injuries and remain ninth in the Super League table.
“We just need to win games and be proud of our performances, that’s what the fans and the club want to see,” Robinson said.
“The long-term vision has not been presented yet. We don’t know what is going on. [behind the scenes]My job is to get the players to play well as a team and we made some small progress last week.
“There has been a lot going on behind the scenes between the players for weeks and months so it’s not something that can be solved quickly. I’ve been trying to resolve it as best I can and keep the team together.”
“Anyone who watched the game in Leigh saw a group of players willing to put in a lot of effort for each other. It’s a step in the right direction but we still need to pick up a bit.”
