Steve Bannon is scheduled to report to federal prison on Monday to begin serving a four-month sentence for contempt of Congress for failing to comply with a subpoena from the 1/6 Committee.
House Speaker Mike Johnson and House Republican leaders tried to save Bannon by filing an amicus brief in court, but Republicans argued that the 1/6 Committee was illegally constituted and that Bannon’s conviction should be overturned. But the argument failed because the committee’s composition was based on previous select committees used to investigate events like 9/11.
Not even a brief from his friend, Chairman Mike Johnson, could persuade the Supreme Court’s conservative majority to hear his appeal. Bannon represents the lawlessness of Trump and his criminal cronies, and he will now serve his sentence.
