The PGA of America, which organizes the biennial U.S. event, confirmed in early October that a one-day ticket to New York’s Bethpage Black Course costs about $750.
When Europe hosted the event in Rome last year, the same standard type ticket cost just over £200.
There has been an online backlash over pricing of tickets for practice days on Tuesday and Wednesday, with fees of more than $250.
“I think it’s an outrageous amount of money,” Spence said on the show’s latest episode. sky sports golf podcast.
“All you see on training days is the players just laughing and joking, and they charge $255 – I think it was about £60 at Marco Simone. Right – anything under £100′ – people will be there to meet everyone and get a feel for the event.
“But I understand that if you go for $755, you can buy as many chicken burgers and colas as you want, but it’s tough. How many can you eat? That seems like a lot.

Mr Lee suggested the pricing scheme was designed to avoid profits for resellers, but warned that higher costs could lead to emboldening unruly fans.
“Honestly, that’s a lot of money,” Lee said. “I think part of the rationale that I’ve read is that because a lot of people buy resale tickets, a lot of people end up paying much more than the gate price for a ticket.
“So what the PGA of America is saying is, ‘What if we took some of that money? We’re the host, but we’re completely cut out of the loop.’ ”
