Sargent Studios, the developer behind the indie title Tales of Kensela: ZAU, has laid off its entire game development staff while it searches for a publisher for its next game, the studio announced today.
In the post of XSurgent Studio, formerly known as Twitter, said it has not yet been able to find a partner for its next game in development. Although the game has not been announced as a successor to ZAU, it has been stated to carry on its design lineage, and the game cannot continue without money to pay its staff. A prototype has been created, but it hasn’t been given the green light yet.
Earlier this year, Surgent Studios had to lay off more than a dozen developers after ZAU failed to meet expectations. The studio was founded by Assassin’s Creed and House of the Dragon actor Abubakar Salim and aimed to create culturally sensitive action games. Importantly, at least ZAU achieved that with an above-average critical score.
