Raymond Muratala defeated former world champion Tevin Farmer by unanimous decision to improve his unbeaten record to 21-0, after which he also added wins over Dennis Belincik and Shakur Stevenson.
Muratalla won Saturday night’s lightweight bout against Farmer, who was the IBF super featherweight titleholder from 2018-2020, 97-92, 96-93, 95-94 on the scorecards.
The California native is currently hoping to face either WBO lightweight champion Dennis Belincik or WBC lightweight titlist Shakur Stevenson.
“I want a champion next. Berinczyk called my name. I’m still calling his name. If I can’t get Berinczyk, I want Shakur,” the 27-year-old said.
Muratala vs. Farmer became the main event in Las Vegas after WBO and IBF middleweight champion Yanibek Alimcanuli was forced to withdraw from his title defense against Andrei Mikhailovic due to dehydration.
The 33-year-old Farmer, using his southpaw fighting style to showcase his speed and counterpunching ability, dominated Murata in the first half of the bout, but as the bout progressed, his momentum faded as Murata’s overwhelming power became more apparent.
Farmer, who suffered his sixth loss in 41 fights, was deducted a point for holding in the eighth round, but Muratala landed several body shots and a powerful right punch to secure the victory in the tenth and final round.
The winner said: “He was moving around. He was holding his own. So I had to keep the pressure on and we got the win.”
“I just kept on pressuring him. I just kept on pressuring him. My team told me to keep on pressuring him. I was beating him round after round.”
“I don’t like the points deductions,” Farmer said annoyed. “I feel like they were both holding.”
“When I was trying to get out he grabbed my arm so it looked like he was holding me, but it’s the umpire, he makes the call and I have to live with it.”
