You’ll love this creamy, cherry-flavored cocktail. It reminds me of the cherry version of Grasshopper. This is one of the best dessert cocktails I’ve ever tried. The name Pinkris comes from its pink color.
The Pink Squirrel cocktail recipe was created by Bryant Sharp in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the Bryant Cocktail Lounge in the 1940s. Let’s learn how to make pink rice?

material
- Crème de Noyot – This almond-flavored liqueur is made from apricot or peach pits or cherry pits. This liqueur is similar to amaretto and has a reddish color that gives Pink Ris its pink color.
- white creme de cacao – For this recipe, use white (or clear) crème de cacao, as the dark version is not suitable for pale pink colors.
- fresh cream – Gives this cocktail a very creamy finish.
- nutmeg – Freshly ground nutmeg is best. You can usually find whole nutmeg in the spice section of your grocery store.
- maraschino cherry – Optional garnish.
Equipment needed: The best glass choice for this cocktail is martini glass or coupe glass. Also, cocktail shaker.
Instructions
Add crème de Noyot, white crème de cacao, and heavy cream to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Shake for 10-15 seconds or until shaker feels cool enough.
Strain and pour into a coupe glass.
Garnish with maraschino cherries and a sprinkle of freshly ground nutmeg.
tips on how to make
- Alternatives to crème de noyot – This ingredient can be difficult to find. I had to order it because my local store didn’t carry it. You can substitute crème de noyo with amaretto. That way you’ll get a similar flavor, but you’ll lose the pink color. To add pink color, use 1 drop of food coloring or 0.5 oz of pomegranate juice.
- decoration ideas – Pink crisps are usually served with fresh nutmeg and maraschino cherries. Other fun ideas include sprinkling pink around the rim, adding whipped cream to the drink as a topping, and adding pink candies (or a cocktail skewer with some candies in it) to the top of the drink. I have some ideas.
- pink lis milkshake – Turn pink crisps into frozen cocktails! In a blender, combine 2 tablespoons of crème de Noyot, 2 tablespoons of white crème de cacao, and 2 cups of vanilla ice cream. Top with whipped cream, fresh nutmeg, and maraschino cherries.
- pink squirrel float – Mix 2 tablespoons of crème de Noyot and 2 tablespoons of white crème de cacao in a cocktail shaker, strain and pour into a martini glass. Top with plenty of vanilla ice cream. Garnish with a sprinkle of fresh nutmeg and cherry.
