Ottawa – At 9:08 a.m. today, two Greenpeace Canada activists were arrested at the official residence of opposition leader Pierre Poilievre in Stornoway, Ottawa. The protesters, who were arrested for mischief and intimidation, did not resist police. Activists set up a replica of an oil pump jack on a driveway in Stornoway, surrounded by burnt forest and flames, painting it with charcoal made from wood burned in the 2021 wildfires that destroyed the town of Lytton, B.C. He was part of a larger group that represented the victim. Climate change inaction. Activists delivered a powerful message: Poilievre: Protect the polluters, betray the people..
“Mr. Poièvre’s silence today proves that his true purpose is to protect polluters while betraying the people. We ask him how he can protect Canadians from unnatural climate disasters.” apparently he did not consider the health and safety of the community important enough. While I was under arrest, Poièvre gave free passes to big polluters like oil and gas, ensuring more profits for the wealthiest at the expense of Canadians’ futures. Canadians deserve leaders who protect people and the climate, not polluters.” said Keith Stewart, one of the arrested activists and a senior energy strategist at Greenpeace Canada.
