The Baltimore Orioles placed right-hander Corbin Burnes on the paternity list on Friday and recalled left-hander Matt Kruk from Triple-A Norfolk.
The 29-year-old Barnes allowed just one run on nine hits over seven innings against the Texas Rangers on Thursday, improving to 9-3 and lowering his ERA to 2.28. Barnes, the 2021 National League Cy Young Award winner with the Milwaukee Brewers, is in his first season with the Orioles.
MLB’s paternity list allows a player to miss up to three games, but Barnes is not scheduled to pitch during that time.
The move gives the 29-year-old Krug a chance to make his Orioles debut after giving up 11 runs in four relief innings with the New York Yankees in his major league debut last season.
Krug has made 26 relief appearances in Triple-A this season, going 2-2 with a 3.71 ERA.
