OLB Nick Abrams II visits Georgia Tech and Michigan State University
Recruiting for outside linebacker Nick Abrams II, who will enroll in the class of 2026, is beginning to pick up steam.
The McDonough School (Owings Mills, Md.) athlete currently has three scholarship offers. Pennsylvania State University, Georgia Institute of Technology And recently, Michigan State UniversityIt would be no surprise if the numbers continue to grow this fall.
The Nittany Lions offered Abrams in late July while he was in Happy Valley for the team’s “Rush Bash” event.
Georgia Tech offered Abrams earlier this month, and he was in Atlanta watching the Yellow Jackets win last weekend. Virginia Military Institute The final score was 59-7.
Michigan State got in on the action on Sunday, offering Abrams before he returned home from a trip to Georgia Tech.
He was the co-special teams coordinator and rush end coach at Michigan State. Chad Wilt Wilt extended the offer to Abrams from the Spartans, and Abrams was still on his way through Baltimore-Washington International Airport when Wilt called.
Abrams still doesn’t know much about the Michigan State football program, where he is currently in his first year. Jonathan SmithHis tenure in East Lansing is over, but he’s eager to continue learning.
“I was ecstatic,” Abrams told Rivals when asked about the Michigan State offer. “I actually just got off a plane back to Maryland when I got a call from Coach Wilt. So I was walking through Baltimore-Washington International Airport talking to him, and when he told me about the offer, I was in the middle of the airport like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah.'”
“I don’t know much about Michigan State football yet, but I want to learn more about their style of play and how their defense works — what packages they run at certain points in the game. I also want to see how I fit into their defense.”
Though the relationship is still fairly new, Wilt has been in contact with Abrams for some time, and the young linebacker is hoping to develop a bond with Wilt and the Michigan State staff.
Wilt also has a good relationship with Coach McDonogh. Hakim Soule.
“I spoke with Coach Wilt before he called me with the offer,” Abrams said of Coach Wilt. “Coach Wilt is a great coach and an even greater person. He talked to me about the type of player they were looking for, not only on the field but off the field as well. He talked to me about the connection he had with my coaches and how important it was for him to ask (Coach Suhl) about me as a player and as a person.”
Abrams is interested in visiting Michigan State University, but a date has not yet been set.
As mentioned above, Abrams was at Georgia Tech this past weekend and had a great time in Atlanta.
“Georgia Tech had a great atmosphere,” Abrams said. “From the moment I got there, the coaches made it feel like home.”
Additionally, Abrams had a great time during her visit to Penn State in July.
“Penn State was great as well,” he said. “All the coaches were very welcoming and made me feel like I was at home. The program is great and has a lot of history.”
Abrams has several other trips planned this fall. Rutgers October 12 (vs. Wisconsin) Maryland October 19th (vs. U.S.C.) and at Penn State on November 9th in the “White Out” game (against the University of Washington).
Most schools view Abrams as a linebacker, but Michigan State’s “rush end” position is a little different, a stand-up hybrid outside linebacker/defensive end that lines up along the defensive line and can rush the quarterback, make the run or drop into pass coverage under the direction of Wilt, the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Joe Rossi.
Regardless of what specific position he plays at the collegiate level, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Abrams feels he has the skill set to thrive.
“I would describe my game as versatile,” Abrams said. “I can cover running backs, tight ends, slot receivers, I can stop the run, I can play in the backfield, I can rush the pass and get sacks.”
Naturally, the three schools that have already offered Abrams are the ones currently in the most contact and interest from the linebacker, but it’s still early in the process and the recruiting window is open to any programs that are interested in him.
“Right now the schools that have offered me stand out the most – Penn State, Georgia Tech and Michigan State,” Abrams said, “but I’m open to any school that wants to recruit me.”
Abrams doesn’t have a specific timeline set yet, but for now he plans to take things one step at a time, visiting and building relationships with coaches.
“I’m just trying to find out what’s out there and which schools are a good fit for me and which aren’t,” Abrams explained.
