TikTok Star Khaby Lame Allegedly Detained by ICE, Told to Leave U.S.

One singer is feeling at home (of the brave).

After Dominican American singer Nezza performed the national anthem in Spanish at the Los Angeles Dodgers’ June 14 game, the 30-year-old recounted the emotional experience—including sharing that she sang the song in Spanish against the organization’s wishes.

In one TikTok video shared after the June 14 game, Nezza visibly shifted from smiling to straight-faced as an off-camera Dodgers rep told her, “We are going to do the song in English today, I’m not sure if that wasn’t relayed,” before the clip cuts to her tearfully finishing the song.

“Watch the Dodgers tell me I can’t sing the Spanish star spangled banner that Roosevelt literally commissioned in 1945,” the singer wrote atop the first clip, before adding during the second, “So I did it anyway.”

E! News has reached out to the Los Angeles Dodgers for comment and has not heard back.

In a separate TikTok, Nezza (real name Vanessa Hernández) detailed her thoughts on the experience and expressed surprise that the organization discouraged her to sing in Spanish in light of the recent Los Angeles protests, which have been in response to raids by ICE agents.
