Over the years, I’ve written many articles about natural hair care, including recipes for nourishing conditioners and herbal hair treatments to make your hair healthier. But healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp, and this hair growth oil nourishes the scalp, making it perfect for those who struggle with hair loss and breakage.
I originally wrote this recipe for men who notice thinning hair as they age, but there are also many women looking for hair care products that take their hair’s health into consideration. Excessive styling, tight hairstyles (like tight braids), heat styling tools, thyroid issues, male pattern baldness, and pregnancy can all contribute to hair loss.
More than half of women will experience hair loss at some point. You may not be experiencing hair thinning, but you still want your hair to grow longer.
After I became pregnant, I started trying natural ways to encourage hair regrowth and found that this hair growth oil would be equally effective for men looking to prevent hair loss. If you’re anyone who’s noticed that your hair isn’t as lush as it once was, the good news is that there are natural options.
Promotes healthy hair growth
As with everything else, the foundation of healthy hair is a healthy diet, and nutrients like biotin and collagen help keep all types of hair healthy and strong. Expert Recommended It focuses on B vitamins, vitamin C (for collagen production), omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins D and A.
Also, iron deficiency can play a role. Iron is necessary for healthy blood flow to hair follicles. I try to get as much of the nutrient as possible from whole foods, but any deficiencies can be made up with supplements. Good nutrition can also reduce breakage, receding hairlines, and split ends.
Hydration and minerals are also very important. If you notice dry hair, frizz, or a dry scalp, you may need to drink more water. You can find a recipe for a hydrating mineral drink here.
Hair growth oil treatment
If your hair needs some extra care, natural scalp treatments can help. There are many natural oils that can help your hair grow faster and easier. Popular oils include almond oil, argan oil, coconut oil, and jojoba oil. For those with hair loss, Vitamin E can help reduce oxidative damage to the scalp and promote hair growth.
There are many options, but for this recipe we use:
- Castor oil – Used for detox with treatments such as castor oil packs. Also used to thicken/lengthen hair and eyelashes. Not only does it reduce hair loss, but it also stimulates hair growth significantly. After using it twice a week, my hair grew 1.5 inches in a month.
- Black Seed Oil – Black seed oil has many benefits, but is especially great for hair growth. It helps treat fungal infections that cause hair loss and may also help prevent hair thinning in the first place. It can be used internally or externally, but be sure to test a small amount on the skin on your inner arm first before using on larger areas. Black seed oil may be irritating to some people.
- Rosemary oil – Rosemary is well known for its hair growth properties and is often added to hair growth treatments. shampooAdding a small amount will add a pleasant fragrance and enhance the effectiveness of your recipes by reducing inflammation and dandruff.
- Lavender essential oil – Also great for skin health and hair growth. Contains soothing Black Cumin Seed and Rosemary to create a refreshing scent.
Tea tree oil and peppermint oil can also help, but I personally did not use them in this recipe. If you have dandruff, an oily scalp, or fungal issues, you can add a few drops of tea tree oil. Peppermint stimulates the scalp, improving blood flow and encouraging hair growth.
Optional: olive oil and cayenne oil
Cayenne pepper increases blood circulation and is used as a folk remedy for hair loss and muscle pain. If you want to incorporate cayenne pepper into your hair growth oil, it’s easy to make a decoction. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Place the ingredients over a double burner and let them soak for about an hour.
- You can also use the solar infusion method, which simply involves placing the cayenne pepper and oil in a glass jar and leaving it in the sun for a few days.
- Strain out the cayenne pepper and reserve the oil to use in your hair growth oil recipe.
Natural Hair Growth Oil Recipe
A combination of oils that promote hair growth, including castor oil, black cumin seed, rosemary, and lavender.
yield: 3 Ounce
-
Mix all the ingredients in a dark glass bottle. You can use a brown dropper bottle, but I reuse a black cumin seed bottle. This bottle has a special Milon glass that keeps the oil from spoiling for years.
-
Dampen hair and massage 10-30 drops (or 1/2-1 teaspoon) into scalp.
-
Leave it on for an hour or overnight and then wash it off. We recommend using it at night and sleeping with a towel on your pillow to prevent oil stains.
-
Use once a week or as needed to promote hair growth.
Test the oil on a small area on the inside of your arm before using it all over your scalp. Do not use if a reaction or sensitivity occurs. Black cumin seed oil may be skin irritating to some people with sensitive skin.
