WASHINGTON, DC (CelebrityAccess) — This week, the Fix the Tix coalition, led by the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA), held a day of action to urge U.S. lawmakers to embrace comprehensive reform of the ticketing industry.
The day of action was supported by artists across the live events sector, who joined forces to urge fans to participate and lobby Congress to pass the Fans First Act (S. 3457).
Participating artists included Finneas, Billie Eilish, Underoath, Andrew McMahon, Something Corporate, Graham Nash, Shondrell, Dave Alvin, Blind Boys of Alabama, Bobby Rush, Del McCoury Band, The Gimme Gimmes, Suzanne Vega, and Cowboy Junkies.
In total, the community has sent more than 65,000 letters and messages in support of the cause to members of Congress and the White House, according to the Fix The Tix Coalition.
“It’s clearer than ever that the consumers, fans and artists who make up this country’s live events industry will not let predatory scalpers control their ticket buying experience,” said NIVA Executive Director Steven Parker. “This week’s action sends a clear message to Congress that now is the time for comprehensive reform. This country needs laws that ban counterfeit tickets, stop price gouging and make deceptive marketing tactics illegal. And consumers will not stop demanding clear protections from fraud and deception until trust and transparency are restored.”
