Mark ZuckerbergMeta has lifted restrictions Donald Trumpon its Facebook and Instagram accounts reversed course just days after Trump denounced Mark online.
Mehta announced Friday that it was lifting all restrictions on Trump’s official Facebook and Instagram pages as he nears becoming the official presidential nominee at next week’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
Mehta explained in a statement: “In assessing the responsibility for permitting political expression, we believe the American people should be able to hear from presidential candidates with the same standards.”
Remember, Trump was banned from Facebook and Instagram as a result of the riots in 2021. He was also banned from Twitter. Meta reinstated Trump’s account last year but said it would monitor it for further violations that might warrant a suspension.
Now the guardrails are completely gone… just days after Trump denounced Mark on his own platform, Truth Social, which DT launched after being banned from mainstream social media.
Trump’s post read: “Let me just say that if I am elected President I will go after election fraudsters like never before and give them long prison sentences. I already know who you are. Don’t do it! Zuckerbucks, watch out!”
It’s unclear whether Meta was prompted to make changes based on Trump’s posts, but Zacks’ firm has worked with Trump President Biden Both are held to the same standards as other meta users, including “policies to prevent hate speech and incitement to violence.”
It will be interesting to see if Trump becomes more active on Facebook and Instagram, or if he keeps his rants confined to Truth Social.
