“One of my favorite memories from the Swat Valley is a field trip I took in middle school with my best friend Moniba (second photo, left). We giggled as we went to a hidden waterfall in the lush mountains,” she wrote. “We were so excited to finally be in school again and to be able to laugh and sing outdoors with our friends.
Her post continues, “Having lived through a time when music and the arts were banned, music felt like a gift to me. Moniba and I found the tallest rock we could, climbed to the top and announced to all our classmates and teachers that we were going to perform our new favorite song, ‘LOVE STORY.’ We sang our hearts out and enjoyed every moment. And that’s where my Swiftie journey began.”
Yousafzai, an avid fan, ended her post with a message of hope, referencing Swift: “I hope that one day we can live in a world where every girl can enjoy music and achieve her dreams,” she wrote.
Yousafzai has previously spoken about how she admires women in the entertainment industry.
