In the span of about eight hours on Monday, President Donald Trump went from suggesting a nuclear deal with Iran remained “achievable” to urging Tehran’s 9.5 million residents to flee for their lives as he cut his visit to the international G7 summit short to return to Washington for urgent talks with his national security team.

Trump expressed frustration with Iranian leaders for failing to reach an agreement, adding that he wants “a real end” to the conflict and a “complete give-up” of Tehran’s nuclear program. Trump, who said he plans to meet with advisers in the Situation Room.

Other news we’re following:

Trump contradicts national intelligence director on Iran: When testifying before Congress in March, Tulsi Gabbard was clear that Iran was not building a nuclear weapon. Trump today dismissed her remark, saying, “I don’t care what she said,” insisting Iran was “very close” to having a nuclear bomb. In a stroke of serendipity, Gabbard is scheduled to again testify before Congress today.Trump calls Walz ‘whacked out’ after state legislator killed: When asked aboard Air Force 1 whether he’d call Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz after two state lawmakers and their spouses were shot, Trump responded, “The guy doesn’t have a clue. He’s a mess. So I could be nice and call him, but why waste time?”Trump signs UK trade deal: The new trade agreement, first announced in May, is expected to slash tariffs on goods from both countries. Trump said the deal will “produce a lot of jobs, a lot of income.” The final deal does not include tariffs on steel, as was previously planned, but talks on the subject are ongoing.
