Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen has been suffering from back spasms that forced him to leave Utah’s 113-96 loss to the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night.
Markkanen played 17 minutes against Sacramento and came off the bench in the second half. He had 7 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist.
Jazz coach Will Hardy told reporters after the game that Markkanen would receive treatment Wednesday. Utah State is off until Thursday, when they play the San Antonio Spurs in Salt Lake City. Hardy plans to wait until then and determine whether Markkanen is fit to play.
Markkanen averaged 18.0 points, 7.3 boards and 1.8 assists in four games (all starts) this season, becoming one of the few bright spots for a Jazz team that is 0-4.
Markkanen, 27, was selected as an All-Star for the 2022-23 season.
