The redesigned headphones are much more comfortable to wear for long periods of time than previous models. Sony has also improved its active noise cancellation (ANC) capabilities with the addition of a new chip and four microphones. We feel that the company’s current flagship headphones do a better job of blocking high frequencies and background noise (and even human voices) than the XM4.
XM5 can switch between noise modes depending on your location and activity, and can automatically pause audio when you start speaking. It offers better call quality than competing models, and generally has clear, crisp sound with punchy bass. The XM5 has a 30-hour battery life, so you won’t need to charge it often.
