One of the Houston area’s top prospects is now unsigned.
Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Marshall four-star athlete Jakaiden Ferguson Kentucky During an official visit to Lexington.
Ferguson is ranked as the No. 7 athlete in the 2025 class and the No. 38 prospect in the state of Texas.
Ferguson received an offer from the University of Kentucky on Feb. 26 of this spring, and the Wildcats were the favorite to sign him from then on.
The 6-foot-3, 175-pound player played wide receiver at Fort Bend Marshall University, but he began playing cornerback and his scouting efforts picked up steam again as more schools began scouting him.
But the man who orchestrated the recruitment was Kentucky receivers coach Dykel Shorts Jr. The relationship between the two led to an official visit, and Ferguson felt he would be the man to make the move.
“I knew in my heart I was going to do it, but everything during the visit just solidified it.”
“Like many other teams, Kentuck is recruiting Ferguson as an athlete. He plans to play receiver and cornerback.”
“I think he’ll be able to get in the slot and then move to the outside. Defensively, he’ll be an outside cornerback. The emphasis will be on wide receiver, but once he can do that, he’ll be able to play cornerback as well.”
