Florida They are putting together a very skilled offensive group for the 2025 cycle.
The latest addition is a big name in Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy four-star wide receiver Daylan McCutcheon.
McCutcheon is the No. 77 prospect in the Rivals 250 rankings. He chose Florida State University. U.S.C., Texas, SMUand Ohio State University.
McCutcheon has been busy over the past two months, making five official visits to all of the finalists.
“I had a great time taking all those official visits in June because I got to experience all the hospitality, sit down with all the coaches, hang out with the players and learn the culture,” he told Rivals.
“To be honest, all of these schools jumped into my top five and helped me decide where to go to college,” he added.
But it won’t come as a surprise to many that the Seminoles won the race. McCutcheon has spoken highly of Florida State, just as he has spoken highly of nearly every candidate over the past few months.
“They see me moving across the field as an inside and outside player, crossing and running go routes,” McCutcheon told Rivals. “That’s what they want to hear.”
“I adjusted really well over there,” McCutcheon added. “I got on really well with Jacai and Haikeem. I got on really well with them and it was really fun.”
McCutchen also has significant family ties to Florida, which he says helped him a bit in the process.
“I wouldn’t say it’s going to be easier because Tallahassee is far from Fort Lauderdale where my family is from, but being in Florida definitely helps because I have more family coming to the games and cheering me on,” McCutcheon said.
McCutcheon is known as a smooth, silky playmaker who can play any wide receiver position on the field, is particularly good on the outside, moves vertically and likes to attack downfield, and his skill set makes him extremely dangerous in the slot where he can exploit space and find potential mismatches on defense.
A skilled route runner, McCutcheon creates separation at the line with just his feet and agility, and then he can use his speed to get further down the field. One could also argue that McCutcheon is one of the best pure ball trackers in this class. His ability to adjust and make plays on the ball while maintaining advantageous position is a huge skill for him moving forward.
McCutcheon’s handles are also top notch. He often catches the ball away from his body and makes a quick catch to keep the play going. He will also be able to make acrobatic one-handed catches that most wide receivers are unable to make. Yards after the catch will also be one of the biggest aspects of McCutcheon’s game. His ability to shave off opponents and weave through traffic will brighten his future.
