Fact or fiction: Florida State’s loss will impact the school’s recruiting cap
Rivals National Recruiting Analyst John Garcia Jr. National recruitment analysts participate Sam Spiegelman, Marcus Benjamin of Kans County and Jason Higdon of 1stAndTenFlorida.com They will tackle three topics and determine whether each statement is fact or fiction.
1. Florida State’s loss to Georgia Tech will impact the school’s admissions numbers for the class of 2025.
SPIEGELMAN: Fiction. Every year we see a top 25 team lose in the opening round and then get back on track later in the season, and that’s exactly what happened this year. Mike Norvell And the Seminoles have a lot of players available. The staff is already loaded with quality players, and I know that freshmen aren’t going to make a decision based on one game, no matter how much anticipation and excitement there is. If the opening week is any indicator for the rest of the year, my stance may change. For now, I’m still in favor of Norvell and Florida We plan to continue our recruitment efforts at the same high pace as before.
Garcia: That’s true. For Florida State, awareness has been one of its best weapons in recruiting, especially compared to in-state rivals. Florida and MiamiOn the field, at least, the Seminoles were coming off a stellar 2023 season that placed them a notch or two above other teams in the state. Georgia Institute of Technology The loss, combined with the bowl embarrassment, is built into the fabric of perception, a key part of continuing recruiting work.
The Seminoles’ loss may be cause for concern in itself: They gave up seven second-half points, lost a lead and deployed an offense that failed to produce 300 yards against a team that was perceived to be inferior talent-wise.
With so much attention focused on the rivalry’s style as the season gets underway, it would be surprising if that doesn’t affect how the upperclassmen view Florida State’s players.

2. The Miami-Florida game is more important to the Hurricanes than it is to the Gators.
Benjamin: That’s true. The season opener is an important game for any team. Starting the season well can determine the outcome of the entire season. There may be no game more important than the 2024 season opener Miami vs Florida. Both teams were in desperate need of a win, and both teams ended their seasons with a crushing loss. Miami lost to Florida. Rutgers In the Pinstripe Bowl, Florida lost to rival Florida State University.
This game means a lot to Florida. A loss would end their 33-game winning streak in home openers. Billy NapierAll eyes will be on the Gators in the final leg of the SEC finals. But the unranked Gators are expected to get very little buzz in a crowded SEC field. For Miami, though, it means a bit more. Miami’s hype is two locomotives’ worth, with the Hurricanes projected to win nine games according to most sportsbooks. We’ve seen this team falter after big losses, and some fans might even go so far as to say the season is a failure if the Hurricanes win eight games. That makes this first game crucial to the team’s trajectory.
Miami has the ability to win every game on the schedule, but a Game 1 loss to the rival Gators would leave many thinking Miami is like the Hurricanes have been in recent years and is far from a recovery.
Garcia: That’s true. I want to point out a trend in Florida. University of California, San FranciscoThis game in a few weeks will be more of a must-win game for Billy Napier and his teammates than just a season opener against a Miami team that’s suddenly poised to make waves in the ACC.
There’s a perception when it comes to Florida State that they have the talent but not necessarily the whole picture, so the opportunity for an SEC road trip against a rival school will change perceptions all at once. Of course, they’ll have a ton of top freshmen in attendance, and given the way in-state rival Florida State has started their season, it opens the door wide for them to claim the top spot in the Sunshine State.
This game will be the defining one for Miami this fall, and a win would put the team in top form. Mario Cristobal And when they lose, it leaves many to wonder if recruiting elite players is pointless if the on-field performance is the same.

3. The Miami-Florida game is more important for the Gators than it is for the Hurricanes.
Higdon: It’s fiction. Ask any fan, staff or player and everyone knows the answer to this question. Every team will tell you this game is more important for their team. Miami is on the road and is favored by 2.5-3 points depending on where you look. The over/under projected win total for the Hurricanes is 9.5 games.
Florida is playing a home game at the Swamp and is a 2.5-3 point underdog depending on where you look. The Gators’ projected over/under to win is between 4.5 and 5.5 games.
Experts think Miami is a pretty good football team, but they need to have more faith in the Gators in 2024. The Hurricanes are expected to beat Las Vegas. Miami is ranked 19th in the preseason, while the Gators are outside the top 25 going into the weekend.
I will make it a fiction because if one team is expected to win, the match will be more important for that team. The meaning of this match will change a lot depending on which team you expect to win. There is no denying this simple truth.
Garcia: Fiction. As I revealed a little earlier, Florida has some flexibility in terms of wins and losses when it comes to Napier’s crunch situation. This schedule is arguably the toughest in the country, so an early road trip probably won’t set off alarm bells in Gainesville, but a stumble against UCF in a few weeks certainly will. Florida will rely on young talent and could be an underdog team on paper. This, too, will generate some sympathy in terms of program perception and crunch situations. It could also lead to Napier and company taking more risks with play calling, strategy, etc. Either way, the ramifications of this game will be felt throughout the Sunshine State and beyond.
