In his memoirs, Eric Roberts I praised my daughter Emma Roberts For being the type of parent he never was.
“I loved my daughter with the strength of Hercules, despite my own weakness,” Eric, 68, wrote. Runaway Train: Or the Story of My Life So FarPublished on Tuesday, September 17th, Entertainment Weekly.
“But I just couldn’t handle the reality of a baby coming into my life and be a parent!,” Eric continued. “I’m not a father figure yet. Emma, on the other hand, certainly understands what a father’s role is. Now she’s grown up and she’s a mother, and that’s what she is to her first child, Rose.” (Emma, 33, has a 3-year-old son, Rose, with an ex-boyfriend.) Garrett Hedlund.
Roberts welcomed Emma into the world with his ex-partner Kelly Cunningham In 1991, he cited drug addiction as a major factor in his inability to parent: “The greatest consequence of my drug use was the loss of Emma,” he wrote. “I was still heavily addicted to cocaine when she was born. That says it all.”
He added: “I abandoned Kelly when Emma was seven months old. We’ve been through a lot together. [Kelly] She had seen the worst of me and yet she was there for a while. I’m sure she was unsure whether she should do it or not. We both wanted children, maybe I wanted them more than she did, but we both wanted to be parents.”
“I fell madly in love with Emma the first time I saw her,” he said, adding, “We were a beautiful family for a while but it didn’t last. I had too many problems.”

Emma added that her mother raised her to believe she was the best and could do anything, a belief system she plans to pass on to Rose. “You don’t realise how rare that is until you’re an adult,” she said.
