When tragedy strikes, Belfort is ready and waiting to clean up the mess left behind. As the world’s largest disaster recovery company, the company receives approximately 330,000 calls a year and has more than 12,000 employees worldwide prepared to deal with the impacts of hurricanes, floods, terrorist attacks, and more. .
CEO Sheldon Yellen is currently in Florida, just weeks after Hurricanes Helen and Milton hit the state. That’s what he’s been doing for nearly 40 years. Yellen and his team were there to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Hurricane Katrina, and the 2011 Thailand floods, to name a few.
If the results of the 2024 U.S. presidential election turn out badly, he could be in Washington, D.C., as early as next week. Yellen: “This is a scenario” luckthe company is “ready”.
A quarter of Americans worry about civil war after the election
America stands at a crossroads. Even with the presidential election just days away, the country divided fairly evenly It’s about who should run the country: Donald Trump or Kamala Harris.
Add to that a pattern of rejecting election results, conflicts over whether society is too “woke” or too conservative, and a growing distrust of what is real or fake news, and the potential You’ve got a recipe for disaster.
This perhaps explains why more than a quarter of Americans believe a civil war could break out after this year’s presidential election, according to polls. Times.
Twelve percent of respondents said they knew someone who might take up arms if they thought Donald Trump had been fooled into losing victory. 5% said they know someone who might do the same thing if they thought Kamala Harris had cheated on them.
“Of course, first of all I hope nothing happens, but I’m ready to do whatever is asked of me,” Yellen said. “We are ready 24/7.”
To be clear, Belfour is preparing for such a scenario, not because he predicts America is on the brink of civil war, but because that’s the nature of the job. For example, unlike many governments around the world, the Belfort government was preparing for a pandemic before the coronavirus outbreak.
“We have a responsibility to be prepared to respond, and we have all the tools we need to respond,” Yellen said.
“When the pandemic started, we had $1 million (of face masks) on our shelves. People were looking in and said, ‘Sheldon, why are there so many masks on the shelves?’ I can’t tell you why unless I have to. ”
Similarly, should there be a disaster in the aftermath of a Harris or Trump victory, as Yellen says, Belfour is ready.
What will cleaning up a civil war look like?
If civil unrest were to occur in the U.S. capital, or anywhere for that matter, Yellen said it would take just 60 minutes for the company to take action.
“Our command center is perfectly suited to be up and running within an hour,” he says.
We make sure our satellite phones are constantly tested. Our generators are tested weekly…” he added. “All our protocols are always in place because we never know when a call will come in or for exactly what purpose.”
In the event of a riot or mass civil disobedience, the company is typically called to “board up, board up buildings that need to keep people out,” he said.
“So we send out guys with the product in their cars to actually do the board-up. Sometimes there’s a reason for water extraction, and all the equipment, all the generators that need to run, the equipment. Sometimes they are dispatched.”
“As I said, we are ready,” he concluded. “All of these supplies and all of the equipment that we need for our response are in place and our personnel are ready to deploy at any time.”
