Bears safety Douglas Coleman III returned to Chicago on Friday after being hospitalized overnight in Kansas City.
Coach Matt Eberflus gave an update to 670 The Score on Friday, saying Coleman was walking and doing fine following the scary incident in Thursday night’s preseason game against the Chiefs.
Coleman, 26, was injured during a tackle on the first play from scrimmage of the second half, when his neck appeared to snap backwards during contact with Kansas City wide receiver Cornell Powell.
Coleman was treated by medical staff and placed on a stabilizer before being loaded into an ambulance. Eberflus said after the Bears’ 34-21 win that Coleman had regained movement in his arms and legs.
Coleman has yet to play in the NFL. He is trying to make Chicago’s roster after three seasons with the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League. He went undrafted out of Texas Tech in 2020 and spent the rest of the year on the Denver Broncos’ practice squad.
