San Francisco 49ers vs. New England Patriots Preview
Breaking down this game into this NFL Week 5 matchupsAt first glance, an Atlanta Falcons team produced a fluky 45-yard interception touchdown return in a home win over the Saints, and a muffled punt that was recovered in the end zone on 14 attempts. It looks like we were very lucky to be able to escape at home. 26 points. Add to that a 58-yard game-winning field goal and you can see how they survived.
Meanwhile, Tampa Bay defeated the Eagles and advanced to 3-1. The Bucks’ other two wins were in Detroit and a decisive 37-20 win over Washington, wins that have been going very well. The Falcons have a weak home field and have already suffered two losses at home, resulting in a record of 2 wins and 2 losses. Meanwhile, the Bucks’ only road game was a win at Detroit.

Mayfield has looked solid this year, completing 70% of his passes with a high 8-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Mayfield still has some mobility left, as evidenced by his two touchdowns. In the backfield, Bucky Irving is gradually becoming a better one-two punch, averaging 5.8 yards per carry compared to Rashard White’s 2.8. Despite some side issues, the Bucks have effectively held teams to field goals.
If you look at the Falcons, they’re very fortunate that they’re not 0-4 at this point. Their two wins were essentially given to them last week between the Saints and a game where Saquon Barkley dropped the easiest pass in history. The Falcons lack consistency at wide receiver, with Kirk Cousins completing 64.7% of his passes but still only having a 4-to-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Even Bijan Robinson is below NFL average, averaging only 4.1 yards per carry.
Breaking this down, I see the Bucks’ Chris Godwin and especially Mike Evans as the true game-breakers, but I don’t see a single game-breaker for the Falcons. If this were Sunday, I would want to go to the window and bet on Bucks -2. I still lean toward the Bucks, but I tend to move away from road teams on short weeks as the season progresses. This could be a close call, and even though Tampa Bay is the better team, I might have to stay away. Lean: Tampa Bay -2
