The move will have the biggest impact on the team responsible. The cuts to the Apple Books app and Apple Bookstore reportedly include jobs across engineering and other services divisions, such as the division that runs Apple News. said.
It’s unclear exactly how many employees will be laid off. The company notified affected employees across various teams within Executive Vice President Eddy Cue’s services group on Tuesday.
The iPhone maker no longer considers Apple Books a flagship product and is restructuring its team amid a shift toward artificial intelligence. Despite the cuts, the Books app is expected to get new features over time, according to people familiar with the matter.
Previously, in April, Apple (AAPL) halted work on its electric vehicle project and laid off more than 600 employees.
